Thomas Hauss is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery Rechtsanwälte Steuerberater LLP, based in its Düsseldorf office. He is a member of the European Competition Group as well as the European Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Group, where his practice focuses on competition and antitrust law.
He has extensive experience in advising clients on German and EU competition law, including merger control, transaction structuring, restrictive agreements and abuse of a dominant position. He has acted as lead advisor in numerous cross-border transactions obtaining antitrust clearance from the German Federal Cartel Office (Bundeskartellamt) where necessary. In addition, he has coordinated numerous multijurisdictional merger notifications in countries around the world. His antitrust practice also includes antitrust counseling and representation in case of antitrust allegations and investigations.
Thomas acts in a broad range of commercial disputes, both German and international, resolving them through the Courts, by negotiation and especially through arbitration.
Thomas’ IP practice covers all aspects of European and German trademark law, unfair competition, copyrights, design rights and patents. He is experienced in particular in counseling on as well as drafting and negotiating of agreements in the advertising industry.
Thomas is admitted to all German Regional Courts (Landgericht) as well as Courts of Appeals (Oberlandesgericht). He is a member of the German Academic Association for Competition Law (Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht), the German Arbitration Institution (DIS), the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA) and the German Intellectual Property and Copyright Law Association (GRUR).
