McDermott Receives Award at Consumer Directed Health Care Conference
CHICAGO (May 25, 2005) — On May 5, 2005, McDermott Will & Emery's white paper, Encouraging a Responsible Approach to Consumer Driven Health Care, was awarded "Best Company/Organization Initiative for HSA Implementation" at the 2005 Consumer Directed Health Care and National Health, Wellness and Prevention Awards Conference held in Chicago. The Consumer Directed Health Care (CDHC) Awards are designed to recognize excellence and advancement in programs, services and products that enhance the consumer's ability to manage their health care expenditures and enhance health care quality.
CDHC is one of the fastest growing segments of the employer-sponsored market. In November 2004, McDermott Will & Emery announced the release of Encouraging a Responsible Approach to Consumer Driven Health Care, which addresses key issues raised by CDHC programs, and provides recommendations to guide the development of CDHC plans in a business and socially responsible manner. The recommendations presented in the white paper reflect consensus points that emerged from discussion among members of McDermott's Advisory Board on CDHC at a colloquium sponsored by McDermott in May 2004. McDermott's Advisory Board is comprised of a broad array of CDHC stakeholders reflecting a diversity of perspectives. The Advisory Board's recommendations aim to promote the original goal of CDHC programs —reducing employer/system costs while improving the health status of consumers.
