Trademark Practice Ranked in Top 10%

WASHINGTON, D.C. - McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that its Intellectual Property Department was recognized in Intellectual Property Today's "Top Trademark Firms" survey, published in its May 2003 issue.  The Firm's Trademark Practice was ranked 35th (the Top 10th percentile) of 358 U.S. law firms with trademark practices.  The Firm's IP Department secured 371 trademark registrations for clients in 2002, a 44% increase from 2001.

"This significant increase in registrations is a result of the Firm's commitment to continued expansion in the area of intellectual property law, including trademark law," commented Robert Zelnick, head of McDermott's Trademark Practice Group.  "Among general practice firms such as McDermott we ranked in the top 20, which is a further reflection of the strength of our full-service trademark practice within a full-service global law firm."

In Intellectual Property Today's survey last year, the Firm's trademark lawyers were responsible for securing more than 250 trademark registrations issued in 2001, ranking McDermott among the top 50 trademark firms in the United States.  The Firm's Trademark Practice spans major U.S. cities as well as London and Munich.  McDermott's Trademark Practice includes more than 30 trademark lawyers and other dedicated trademark professionals, making it among the largest global trademark practices.

In November 2002, the Firm's Trademark Practice was identified as trademark counsel for three of the Fortune Global 50 companies, as published by IP Worldwide.  The Firm's Trademark Practice tied for second-place for most prosecution mentions among the Global 50 companies.  The survey asked Fortune's Global 50 companies to identify their trademark litigation and trademark prosecution counsel.
