IP Practice Recognized as "Frequent Filer"

CHICAGO — McDermott Will & Emery’s Intellectual Property Department was named in IP Worldwide’s annual survey of "Frequent Filers," published in its May 2002 issue. McDermott Will & Emery was one of 15 law firms to be recognized as counsel on both the plaintiff and defendant sides of patent cases filed in 2001.

McDermott, Will & Emery’s IP Department filed 15 patent cases on behalf of Firm clients and defended 16 cases in 2001. The cases included in IP Worldwide’s survey were only federal district cases filed in 2001 and open as of February 7, 2002, and did not include International Trade Commission cases.

McDermott, Will & Emery’s strategic patent prosecution program also resulted in 1579 patents for its clients in 2001, ranking the Firm in the Top 10 of IP Today’s annual survey of top patent firms, published in April 2002. Additionally, McDermott was listed in the Top 50 of IP Today's "Top Trademark Firms." The annual survey, published in the May 2002 issue, ranked firms by the number of U.S. trademark registrations secured for clients in 2001.

The Intellectual Property Department of McDermott, Will & Emery now numbers more than 140 IP lawyers and patent agents. Our IP lawyers engage in various aspects of IP work including advertising and marketing, computer and internet law, copyrights, legislation, litigation, patents, trade dress, trademarks, trade secrets, unfair competition and antitrust. More than eighty of McDermott’s IP Group members hold technical degrees and are patent bar members. Of those, more than half hold a degree in electrical engineering, biotechnology, chemistry or other technical disciplines including computer engineering.
