IP Growth Brings More Patent Lawyers to Los Angeles Office

LOS ANGELES  — McDermott Will & Emery continues the rapid and successful growth of its West Coast intellectual property practice with the addition to its Los Angeles office of well-known intellectual property partners, Marc E. Brown and Charles Rosenberg. This follows on the heels of Jorge Arciniega joining his Los Angeles IP practice in July of last year. Led by Terry McMahon in the Silicon Valley office, McDermott’s Los Angeles, Silicon Valley and Orange County IP practices now include more than 30 lawyers, as contrasted to the nine that it had just 18 months ago.

"Our West Coast IP practice now offers our clients top IP talent from three California locations, a rarity in California," commented Terry McMahon, who joined McDermott in January of 2001. "This is in addition to our more than 130 IP lawyers in other cities."

Marc Brown, who previously served as managing partner of Oppenheimer's Los Angeles office and co-chair of its Internet and e-Commerce Practice, commented, "McDermott is one of the strongest IP firms in the country. We're here because McDermott puts unbeatable depth and full spectrum of expertise at our clients’ disposal."

Mr. Brown concentrates on electronics, software and internet technologies. He brings McDermott over 20 years of high-tech IP litigation experience, including management of one of the largest patent infringement lawsuits in which billions of dollars in client/server computing technology sales were at stake. He regularly counsels and represents clients in the procurement, evaluation and enforcement of high-tech patents, software copyrights, software development and internet agreements, and trade secret disputes. Mr. Brown is extensively published, frequently invited to speak to the legal and trade industry, and often contacted by the press for comment on breaking legal developments. He received his J.D. with honors, from George Washington University and a B.S. in electrical engineering, with high honors, from Case Western Reserve University.

Charles Rosenberg litigates complex commercial and intellectual property cases, in particular high tech patent cases. He advises clients on and has handled cases involving patents, trademarks, trade secrets copyrights and other types of intellectual property. Mr. Rosenberg is admitted to practice in California, Illinois and the District of Columbia and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. District Courts in California, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. He has served as a patent examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and holds both a B.S and M.S. in engineering from the University of Illinois, in addition to a J.D. from The John Marshall School of Law. Mr. Rosenberg has served as a law clerk and technical advisor to the Honorable Jean Galloway Bissell in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
