McDermott Attracts Leading Health Lawyers
WASHINGTON, DC — McDermott Will & Emery today announced that prominent health law attorney Joel L. Michaels will join its nationally recognized Health Law Department. Mr. Michaels, founder of Michaels & Bonner, P.C. expect to join the Firm's Washington, D.C. office on August 15, 2000.

He will add substantially to the capabilities of our Washington, D.C. and national health law practice, and we anticipate that he will expand upon the leadership he is recognized for within the health law industry," said Michael Anthony, head of the Firm’s Health Law Department.
Mr. Michaels has concentrated his practice in health care law for approximately 25 years, with particular emphasis on health care delivery system organization, financing and regulation. He provides counsel to leading national organizations that accept risk for and administer health benefits, such as health maintenance organizations and networks of hospitals, physicians and management companies. He has assisted for-profit and nonprofit clients in obtaining state and federal licenses, contracts and approvals, and developing viable organizational and contractual arrangements. He also counsels clients on a wide variety of federal law issues, including Medicare and Medicaid regulation, False Claims Act and anti-kickback matters and the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program. Michaels has frequently served as a speaker and lecturer before national trade and professional associations and is widely published in the field of health care law. He received his J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law in 1975 and his B.A. from George Washington University in 1972. Mr. Michaels is a member of the District of Columbia and Maryland bars.
