Four California Partners Named Top Intellectual Property Attorneys

PALO ALTO/IRVINE, CA (April 9, 2008) — McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that four of its California intellectual property partners have been selected by the Daily Journal for its Top Intellectual Property Attorneys lists.  Terrence McMahon, head of the Firm's Global Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department, and Vera Elson, head of the Firm's Silicon Valley IP practice, were named among the Top 50 Intellectual Property Litigators.  James Hill, M.D., partner in the Firm's IP practice and Mark Itri, head of the Firm's Orange County IP practice, were named among the Top 25 Portfolio Managers.

Mr. McMahon concentrates his practice on patent, copyright, trade secret, trademark and other high stakes litigation.  He has more than 30 years of trial experience representing leading technology companies including American Express, General Electric and Seagate Technology, among others.  Mr. McMahon frequently lectures and provides live demonstrations on trial practice and computer law issues.

Ms. Elson has managed and successfully tried to verdict numerous technology-related intellectual property cases in federal and state courts, and has extensive experience representing clients before the International Trade Commission.  She earned her master's in electrical engineering from the University of California Los Angeles and spent five years as a designer of high-speed integrated circuits with Hughes Aircraft’s Advanced Circuit Technology Laboratory.

Dr. Hill has extensive experience in patent prosecution and litigation, strategic counseling, intellectual property due diligence, and licensing, in the areas of medical devices, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, software, and signal and imaging processing.  He did residency training in internal medicine and radiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston.  He was awarded a fellowship in neuroradiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and performed neurosurgery research at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
 
Mr. Itri has more than 17 years of legal experience handling patent and trademark portfolio management, opinion work and due diligence in connection with technology and trademark acquisitions.  Over the course of his career Mr. Itri has gained extensive experience in client counseling, negotiating and drafting technology transfer agreements, joint development agreements and licenses for leading technology clients.
