McDermott Adds to Life Sciences Depth

WASHINGTON, D.C.  — McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that Judith L. Toffenetti has joined the Firm’s Intellectual Property Department as a partner in the Washington, D.C. office. With particular emphasis on biotechnological, chemical and pharmaceutical technologies, Dr. Toffenetti prepares, drafts and prosecutes patent applications worldwide. She also analyzes intellectual property for validity, enforceability and infringement, in various disciplines including pharmaceuticals, molecular biological and immunological products, and medical devices and products.

"Life sciences is an important area to the firm and our clients, and Judith’s practice adds to our IP capacity in this sector," commented Jack Lever, head of the Firm’s Intellectual Property Department. "Her background fits very well with our IP practice and cross-disciplinary life sciences group."

In 1981, Dr. Toffenetti received her Ph.D. in microbial molecular biology from Georgetown University. Following graduation, she was a post-doctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she carried out research in the molecular biology of Drosophila. From 1985 until 1990, Dr. Toffenetti conducted molecular genetics research in the area of retinal degeneration at the Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health. She earned her law degree from George Washington University in 1993, and is admitted to practice in Maryland, the District of Columbia and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
