Boston Office Welcomes New Intellectual Property Partner
BOSTON (August 15, 2006) — The Boston office of McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce the arrival of Joan M. Griffin as partner in the Firm’s Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department. Ms. Griffin is an experienced trial lawyer whose civil practice includes intellectual property and business litigation for science and technology companies.
"Joan is a great addition to our Boston team and will be working closely with our intellectual property group and our Trial Department," commented Susan Cooke, partner-in-charge of the Boston office.
Ms. Griffin has tried more than 30 civil and criminal cases, including patent and trademark infringement litigation and trade secret and licensing disputes, and she appears frequently on New England Cable Network News (NECN) to provide analysis of high profile cases. In her criminal practice Ms. Griffin brought the first successful challenge to the scientific basis of expert ballistics evidence in the country, and she presents at conferences nationwide on challenging forensic evidence. She has also arbitrated cases before the American Arbitration Association and has served as an arbitrator for commercial disputes.
"With her array of experience, Joan will be a significant asset to our local Boston IP practice, as well as our international IP practice," commented Ray Lupo, head of the Firm’s Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department.
Ms. Griffin received her J.D., cum laude, from Harvard University Law School in 1986 and her B.S., summa cum laude, in engineering sciences (chemical) from Yale University in 1983. She served as law clerk to the Honorable Rya Zobel in the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts and continues to serve as a judge of the ecclesiastical trial court for the Episcopal Diocese of Boston.
