Our European energy team is part of McDermott Will & Emery’s global energy services group, which includes more than 40 lawyers across multiple offices with substantial experience in all areas of power, gas, oil and emissions regulation, transmission services, power plant regulation, contracting and energy and emissions trading.

Members of the McDermott Will & Emery European energy team are based in our offices in London, Brussels, Düsseldorf, Munich and Rome, and the services provided include:

  • Representing clients in structured energy and credit derivatives transactions

  • Drafting and negotiating agreements and related documents for the provision of scheduling and risk management services in energy markets

  • Advising on cartel cases in the energy sector

  • Representing clients in international arbitration disputes in the energy sector

  • Advising on EU competition law, cross border transactions and trade in the energy markets

  • Advising on State Aid particularly in the nuclear energy sector and in nuclear decommissioning

  • Advising energy producers and power plant contractors in privatisation and liberalisation processes in European electricity markets

  • Advising on production sharing and supply agreements, energy field developments, construction projects and compliance and authorisation procedures

  • Advising on the establishment and financing of power plants

  • Representing clients in the acquisition of interests in electricity assets and companies

  • Advising on energy joint-ventures and field developments

  • Advising on production sharing agreements

  • Advising on EU gas and electricity market liberalisation Directives

  • Advising on European Emissions Trading System (ETS), Kyoto Protocol and related EU regulatory requirements
