Litigation - London

Our London litigation and arbitration practice reflects the global nature of our clients' business and we are routinely instructed to protect our clients' interests on the international stage. Our recent experience has touched upon numerous jurisdictions worldwide, from the US to Japan, with substantial European capabilities.

Regardless of the sector, our clients receive informed advice from our versatile practice. We build strong relationships, gained by thoroughly understanding their business and the issues surrounding it. We appreciate that dispute resolution forms part of our clients' risk management strategy. It is our team's priority at all times to secure an outcome that best serves clients' interests with minimum risk and exposure.

We have an unusually broad client base including banks and financial services firms, venture capitalists, media and telecoms companies, professional services firms, infrastructure organisations, property companies, utility companies, manufacturers and oil companies.

In the UK, we have vast experience acting in disputes at all levels of the process, from the commercial court up to the House of Lords, before arbitral tribunals and in mediations. In particular, we have wide experience in fraud and corruption cases, from fraud detection and cross border asset recovery to investigations and advisory work.

Recent highlights include:

  • Advising a US-based corporate challenging a decision by the Bermudan Finance Minister to act on a request of the IRS (as part of a Grand Jury investigation in California) pursuant to the US-Bermuda mutual assistance tax treaty.

  • Advising a major media company on a significant Swiss law arbitration.

  • Advising a utility on potential arbitration proceedings arising out of disputes concerning a major power project in Central America.

  • Representing a US oil trader in proceedings in London brought by a German supplier of Russian gasoil.

  • Advising a California-based credit card transaction processor on a multi-million dollar cross border tracing action. The action began with a worldwide asset freezing order.

  • Advising a major international accounting firm in relation to a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) investigation of an audit client. The client has recently been added as a party in a related class action in New Jersey.
