International law firm McDermott Will & Emery announced its selection for two categories in M&A Advisor’s 19th Annual M&A Advisor Awards: “Materials Deal of the Year ($500 million to 1 billion)” and “Cross-Border Deal of the Year ($500 million to 1 billion).” This achievement is a result of the Firm’s representation of Evonik Industries AG (XETRA: EVK), one of the world’s leading specialty chemical companies, in its $640 million acquisition of US-based PeroxyChem, a leading producer of hydrogen peroxide, peracetic acid and persulfates with a strong specialty focus. The merger agreement was entered into in November 2018 and closed in February 2020.
“We are honored to receive these awards which are a testament to our close collaboration with the Evonik M&A team,” said Thomas Sauermilch, who served as the lead McDermott lawyer on the transaction.
The McDermott team partnered with the Evonik team led by Head of M&A Dr. Melanie Flessner and consisting of Thomas Mahlstedt, senior vice president M&A, Lars Kersebaum and Florian Grimm, both legal counsel M&A. The McDermott team advising Evonik was led by Thomas Sauermilch and included Meir Lewittes, Nicole Yoon, and Ana Koff. A Freshfields team led the antitrust effort for Evonik.
