International law firm McDermott Will & Emery represented Doral Renewables in the closing of its construction project financing for the Mammoth North project, a 400MW Solar project located in Starke County, Indiana.
The Mammoth North project is the first phase of Doral’s Mammoth Solar project. It is also developing the nearby Mammoth Central and Mammoth South projects which, together with Mammoth North, will bring 1.3GW of capacity to market as the largest integrated photovoltaic solar electricity generating facility in the U.S.
The transaction was announced June 14, 2022 and the project is slated to enter commercial operation in 2023.
The McDermott project finance team was led by Chris Gladbach on the project’s development and Robert da Silva Ashley on the project’s financing, with assistance from Elle Hayes, Dominique Torsiello, Allison Perlman, Andrew Klimaszewski and Jeronimo Soares de Sousa. The financing included a significant tax equity investment, with Joel Hugenberger and Heather Cooper leading McDermott’s tax team with assistance from Seth Doughty and André Smith.
The McDermott deal teams were supported by key contributions from other Firm specialist teams, including Carl Fleming, Lynn Kamarck, Tyler Kimberly and Chris Benedik on international trade, export controls and customs matters; David Tewksbury on federal energy regulatory matters; Jacob Hollinger on environmental regulatory and permitting matters; Nathan Barnett on Delaware corporate matters; Jane Byrne on R&W policy insurance matters; and Alexandra Scheibe and Rachel Rosen on derivatives and hedging matters.
