Niels Dejean focuses his practice on French tax matters, advising clients on tax law, tax controversy and dispute resolution, private equity and mergers & acquisitions areas.
Before joining McDermott, Niels was the partner in charge of the French tax practice of a US law firm. He also has prior experience within a major audit firm (both in France and in the United States) and has particular strength in cross-border matters and the interaction of French and US tax

- Advised a multinational French company on the sale of its power and grid businesses to a US conglomerate*
- Advised the management of an IT product supplier in connection with the purchase of a significant stake in its company through several buy-out transactions sponsored by various private equity firms*
- Advised an independent European private equity firm on the acquisition, the build-up and the sale of a controlling stake in an environmental services company*
- Advised a CAC 40 company in connection with the acquisition of various targets in the United States and in the United Kingdom in the energy management sector and the structuring of the transactions*
- Represented clients in connection with tax controversy and dispute resolution in various areas, including transfer pricing, hybrid financing, patent royalties, VAT, corporate tax matters, recharacterization of gains from management investment plans into ordinary income*
- Advised a European manufacturer on its multibillion acquisition of beverage can manufacturing assets and support locations in Europe, Brazil and the United States*
- Advised a multinational real estate company on its multibillion acquisition of an Australian retail real estate company*
- Advised an Asian nuclear energy company on its investment in a French nuclear fuel cycle company*
- Advised a private capital firm on the acquisition, build-up and sale of a building supplier to a European investment firm*
