Overview
On February 13, McDermott partner, Debbie Harrison, will be moderating the panel “Impacts of the IRA and Industrial Decarbonization on the ERCOT Market” at the ERCOT Market Summit.
The IRA is driving the development of many projects aimed at decarbonizing hard-to-abate industries such as petrochemical processing, fertilizers, manufacturing, and transportation through new incentives for CCS, hydrogen, synfuels and other technologies. What impacts will this have on things like the thermal generation fleet retirements, and what additional demands will be placed on procurement of renewable energy to support hydrogen, ammonia and synfuel production?
This panel will explore the potential impacts and unintended consequences of the IRA in ERCOT, including:
- How do CCS, hydrogen and synfuel factor into emissions planning?
- Hydrogen—what is being planned in Texas? How much power and water will be needed to run electrolyzers?
- How much wind and solar will be needed to support hydrogen production in order to qualify for IRA incentives?
- What impacts might CCS/CCUS have on coal and gas plant operations?
