Overview
Munich, May 8, 2017 – International law firm, McDermott Will & Emery advised Eurofins Scientific SE, a global provider of biological, chemical and medical laboratory services quoted on Euronext Paris, in the acquisition of MVZ für Laboratoriumsmedizin of Hygiene-Institut GmbH (“Hygel”).
Hygel, a group of medical diagnostic laboratories headquartered in Gelsenkirchen, is one of the largest providers of medical diagnostics services in NRW. With around 370 employees at three locations, Hygel achieved sales of more than €35 million in 2016.
With its acquisition of Hygel, Eurofins is now also entering the highly competitive market of comprehensive medical-diagnostic laboratory services in the field of food, environmental, pharmaceutical, agricultural, consumer goods and genetic analysis in Germany and is therefore strengthening its position in this segment in Europe. At the same time, the extensive resources of the Eurofins Group enable Hygel’s capacity and market reach to be expanded.
The transaction is expected to be completed in early July, subject to the approval of competent authorities. The McDermott Team was headed by the Munich Director of the German Healthcare practice group, Dr. Stephan Rau.
