Arrival of New Partner Pejman Razavilar Reinforces McDermott’s Position as a Destination for Corporate Real Estate

Overview

McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that Pejman (“Pej”) Razavilar has joined the Firm as a partner in the Real Estate practice and will be based in New York. Pej adds substantial experience in the area of real estate private equity and helps reinforce McDermott’s position as a destination for corporate real estate offerings.

Pej focuses on real estate private equity and capital markets with an emphasis on real estate M&A, complex joint ventures, programmatic arrangements, and real estate funds. He also has extensive experience representing institutional investors as well as sponsors, developers and operators on transactions involving preferred equity, senior and mezzanine debt facilities, ground leases, and the purchase and sale of a variety of real estate assets, from acquisitions and dispositions of trophy properties in major US cities to structured transactions involving the purchase and sale of real estate platforms, operating companies and real estate investment vehicles (including REITS).

“With our strategic addition of Pej, we continue to build our positive momentum to scale the Firm’s extensive real estate service offerings,” said Jeffrey Steiner, global head of the firm’s Real Estate Finance Group and Co-Managing Partner of the New York office. “Pej’s experience and industry relationships will significantly expand the corporate and transactional work we do for our real estate clients and further enhance our capabilities in the growing area of real estate private equity.”

Pej comes from Duval & Stachenfeld, where he served as co-chair of the Corporate Real Estate practice and as a member of the Management Committee.

“Pej’s tremendous knowledge of and experience with a wide range of financing and investment structures adds significantly to our core strength and the premier work clients expect from McDermott,” said Keith Pattiz, head of McDermott’s Real Estate practice.

“I look forward to integrating my corporate real estate experience into the Firm’s existing real estate practice to enhance the Firm’s ability to meet the growing needs of clients at the intersection of private equity and real estate”, added Pej. “McDermott boasts a sophisticated and broad-based real estate practice, including an extensive real estate finance practice and real estate investment funds practice. The Firm’s continued expansion into the area of corporate real estate makes McDermott one of a only a few firms in New York City that can offer the full suite of real estate services on a truly international scale.”

Pej’s arrival continues McDermott’s broad investment in the sector, enhancing its real estate and real estate finance capabilities. Since 2018 the Firm has added some thirty lawyers in these areas across New York and London. Pej will work closely with the global team of approximately 100 lawyers in the US, UK, Italy, Germany and France, providing a range of debt and equity finance, investment and management services for real estate developers, institutional and other lenders, private owners, real estate investment trusts, landlords and tenants.

Pej received his AB, cum laude, from Harvard College and his JD, magna cum laude, from New York University School of Law.
