Overview
International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce its Healthcare Practice Group has again received a nationwide Band 1 ranking in the 2023 edition of Chambers USA. This marks the 14th year in a row the firm has secured a Band 1 ranking for its leading healthcare practice.
The Healthcare Group also earned state-level rankings in California, District of Columbia, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts and New York. Overall, the Firm had 41 Chambers USA recommended healthcare lawyers, comprising over 50 percent of the practice partnership, and with more individual rankings than any Band 1 or 2 competitors in the healthcare category.
“It is an honor for our entire Healthcare Group to have achieved the elite ranking from Chambers for 14 years in a row,” said Jerry Sokol, McDermott’s Global Head of Healthcare. “It is a testament to the hard work so many have put in to establish McDermott as the leading healthcare firm providing the highest quality service to our clients on a global scale.”
According to Chambers, McDermott is “a well-established and highly respected healthcare powerhouse which handles complex, multijurisdictional transactions for high-profile clients. Their large and impressively versatile team offers well-honed expertise in all areas of healthcare law, including data privacy matters, government investigations and a wide range of issues affecting health insurers and providers.”
Chambers also relies heavily on client feedback in determining their rankings, with clients and peers describing the practice as “…best in the country,” and “…the best attorneys I have worked with in terms of their ability to handle complex and sophisticated matters.” Another client referee noted McDermott is “a thorough and fast firm” with “high quality counsel and a deep bench in healthcare.”
Of the Firm’s 41 Chambers USA recommended healthcare lawyers, 12 were ranked in Band 1 including: Ira Coleman, Jerry Sokol, Stephen Bernstein, Bernadette Broccolo, Charles Buck, John Callahan, Gary Scott Davis, Christopher Jedrey, James Owens, Michael Peregrine, Lester J. Perling and Kerrin Slattery. This makes McDermott home to twice the number of Band 1-ranked lawyers than any other firm recognized in Chambers’ top Health categories.
McDermott is the nation’s leading health law firm and is the only health practice to receive the ‘Triple Crown’ of recent awards including Chambers USA ‘Healthcare Team of the Year,’ Law360’s ‘Practice Group of the Year’ and US News-Best Lawyers’ ‘Best Law Firms,’ as well as top national rankings from Chambers USA, The Legal 500 US and Law360. McDermott has also received top rankings in PitchBook’s League Tables as the most active firm for healthcare private equity since 2017.
