McDermott Appoints New Managing Partner In Germany

Overview

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that Matthias Kampshoff has been appointed as the new managing partner in Germany, effective as of June 1, 2024. Matthias will also oversee Düsseldorf and Cologne offices.  He succeeds Jens Ortmanns, who has held these positions since 2019.

“I would like to thank Jens for his excellent leadership of our German practice, overseeing a period of significant growth and office moves. Our transaction group in Germany has also flourished in recent years and has a strong bench of lawyers covering private equity, finance, restructuring and real estate,” said Ira Coleman, McDermott Chairman. “At the same time, we are delighted to have Matthias assume the leadership role for our German practice, he will play an instrumental role in our continued expansion here and across Europe.”

Matthias has been a partner in McDermott’s Düsseldorf office for over a decade. In addition to his management responsibilities, he will continue his successful restructuring and distressed M&A practice and will remain accessible to his clients as the principal contact person. Kian Tauser will also continue to be part of the German management team as the second German partner. Kian has been a member of the management level of McDermott’s German practice in this role since 2023.

As a member of McDermott’s global Executive Committee and management team, Jens Ortmanns will, in addition to his client work, devote himself to being the Global Head of Real Estate, a role he was appointed to in 2023.

McDermott has a strong presence in Europe with offices in Brussels, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Cologne, London, Milan, Munich and Paris. The German practice has four offices and over 150 lawyers, and it is McDermott’s largest country practice outside the United States.
