Overview
International law firm McDermott Will & Emery represented Grupo Mexico Transportes (GMXT) in the acquisition of a 60% equity stake from Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W) and SEACOR Holdings Inc. (SEACOR) of:
- The joint venture that owns and operates CG Railway, a company that provides 4-day rail-ferry service between the ports of Mobile, Alabama, and Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, across the Gulf of Mexico.
- The joint venture that owns two double-deck 590-foot roll-on/roll-off rail ferries used in such rail-ferry service.
GMXT is the largest railroad transportation company with the greatest coverage in Mexico. It offers general hauling and intermodal services by railroad, ancillary terminal management and interterminal hauling. G&W will remain as a partner of GMXT, holding 40% of the equity of the joint ventures. The transaction is still subject to regulatory approval by the US authorities.
The McDermott deal team was led by Howard Kleinman and included Carla Tomazella, Mateus Camarotti and Kathy Schumacher.
