Düsseldorf, May 13, 2024 – McDermott Will & Emery has advised the European production and distribution studio Vuelta Group on the acquisition of Munich-based distribution and production company Telepool. Vuelta is acquiring Westbrook’s stake in Telepool for its German subsidiary SquareOne.
The integrated company will operate under the name SquareOne. The acquisition comprises a rights catalogue of over 1,200 titles, including hit movies such as Drive, Intouchables, The Imitation Game, King Richard and Transporter 3. Telepool has been a part of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Westbrook Inc. since 2018.
Outside Germany, Vuelta Group is present in Scandinavia with the production company Scanbox, in France with Playtime and Pan and in Italy with Indiana Productions.
The McDermott team was led by partners Philipp Grenzebach and Wolfgang von Frentz and comprised partners David Grimes, Florian Schiefer and Gudrun Germakowski, counsel Claus Färber as well as associates Kai Grandpierre, Simon Apelojg, Markus Hunkenschröder and Lisa Scheipers.
McDermott already advised on the acquisition of SquareOne Entertainment GmbH for the then newly founded Vuelta Group in 2023, and has represented the group on all European acquisitions to date.
