International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is proud to announce that two partners, Sarah Chapin Columbia and Henrik Holzapfel, have been named among IAM’s first-ever “Global Leaders.” This prestigious award recognizes patent law professionals who have gone above and beyond to provide innovative solutions to cater to their clients’ needs. The lawyers recognized excel in the ever-changing landscape of intellectual property relating to creating, protecting, managing, transacting and enforcing critical patent rights.

Sarah counsels clients on overall intellectual property strategy and positioning, including litigation avoidance. Over the last nine years, she has led 14 patent infringement and invalidity trials (eight jury trials, six bench trials) across several jurisdictions, including the federal courts in Massachusetts, Florida, Delaware, California and Texas.
Henrik advises on all aspects of intellectual property law. He focuses on litigating patents, including the enforcement of patents essential to industry standards and FRAND defenses. Henrik also has extensive experience in litigating trade secret matters. Other areas of his practice include advising on IP licensing agreements, including advice on European competition law, drafting R&D agreements and advising on employees’ inventions.
Sarah and Henrik’s individual accolades comes on the heels of McDermott’s Intellectual Property practice being recognized by IAM Patent 1000 for its creative strategies, clarity of purpose and client commitment.
