Overview
MaryKathryn Hurd counsels hospitals, health systems, providers, health plans and other healthcare companies on a wide range of federal and state regulatory issues. She helps clients execute strategic transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, affiliations and joint ventures. She regularly advises clients on complex Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement and compliance matters, as well as state licensure and scope of practice.
MaryKathryn has particularly deep insights into DC certificate of need (CON) laws. She actively represents providers in obtaining CON approval for the introduction and expansion of healthcare services, changes in ownership, capital expenditures, and closure of healthcare services or facilities in Washington, DC.
Drawing on her extensive policy background, MaryKathryn delivers nuanced solutions that help her clients thrive in today’s complex healthcare regulatory landscape. Before attending law school, she served as a lobbyist for six years, advocating for her clients’ interests and policy goals before members of the Colorado General Assembly. In her role as the legislative liaison representing the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, MaryKathryn was actively involved with the passage and implementation of the Medicaid Expansion and Affordable Care Act in Colorado, as well as the creation of a new dental benefit program for adult Medicaid clients.
